Upgrading PSW Skills to Address Workforce Shortages

Between workforce shortages and employee burnout, COVID-19 continues to place unprecedented strain on health-care workers, including personal support workers (PSWs) in long-term care facilities.

To help address these challenges, the University of Guelph launched a micro-credential program that helps PSWs upgrade their skills while learning to alleviate burnout.

In partnership with St. Joseph’s Health Centre Guelph and the Canadian PSW Network, the online program covers a wide range of areas, including communication, critical thinking, teamwork and collaboration, to provide PSWs with the tools they need to be successful, while responding to a critical labour shortage.
